ClearZone Privacy Policy

ClearZone ("the app", "we", "us") is a focus-lock app for Android that pairs with a physical ClearZone beacon over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with information on your device.

1. Information the app uses (all stored only on your device)

ClearZone stores the following locally on your phone. None of it leaves your device except through the optional Android system backup described in Section 4.

• Linked beacon identifiers and names. The Bluetooth address of each ClearZone beacon you pair (read from its NFC tag) and the friendly name you give it. This identifies your beacon hardware — it is not personal information about you.
• Focus session history. Start/end times of focus and break sessions, and a count of how many times a blocked app was opened, used to show your statistics. Stored in a local database (clearzone_stats.db).
• Your settings. Distance threshold, signal-tuning values, which apps you chose to block, and whether onboarding is complete. Stored in local app preferences.

The app does not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, files, precise location, or any other personal or sensitive personal information.

2. Accessibility Service

ClearZone uses Android's Accessibility Service for one purpose only: to detect which app is currently in the foreground so it can block the apps you have selected during an active focus session. When a blocked app is opened, ClearZone shows a full-screen overlay until your session ends.

ClearZone does not read, log, collect, transmit, or store the content of any screen, text you type, passwords, messages, or any other on-screen information. The service reads only the package name (app identity) of the foreground app. You can turn the Accessibility Service off at any time in Android Settings → Accessibility, and you can uninstall the app to remove it entirely.

3. Permissions and why they are used

• Bluetooth (scan/connect): to detect the ClearZone beacon and measure proximity by signal strength. The BLUETOOTH_SCAN permission is declared with the neverForLocation flag — the app does not use Bluetooth to derive your location.
• Notifications: to show the ongoing "focus detection active" notification required by Android for a background service.
• Run foreground service / wake lock: to keep scanning for your beacon reliably while the screen is off, which is the app's core function.
• Ignore battery optimizations (optional): you may grant an exemption so the system does not suspend beacon detection while idle. This is optional; the app will still run without it, less reliably.
• Start on boot: to resume beacon detection after the phone restarts so your focus protection stays active.
• NFC (optional): to read a ClearZone beacon's tag when you tap it to your phone during pairing.
• Usage access (optional): if you grant it, the app reads on-device app-usage figures only to show you personalized insights during onboarding. This data is not collected or transmitted.

4. Backups

If you have Android's system backup enabled, the operating system may include ClearZone's local stats database and settings in your own Google account backup, and may restore them when you set up a new device. This is an Android feature controlled by you in your device settings; ClearZone has no separate cloud and never receives this data.

5. Data sharing and selling

We do not share, sell, rent, or transmit your information to anyone. The app has no servers, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party data processors.

6. Data retention and deletion

All data stays on your device for as long as the app is installed. Uninstalling ClearZone permanently deletes all of its data. You can also clear the app's storage from Android Settings at any time.

7. Children

ClearZone is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the revised version at this URL.
